This May, the VBT Circle will get a new half-court basketball court, bringing more recreational opportunities to the area. The court, measuring 30′ x 30′, will include a 10′ fence to ensure safety, keeping basketballs within the court and out of the street.

Brandon Emmick, a board member of the HOA, will manage the project, ensuring a smooth installation. The court will initially feature a half-court design but will be expanded in the future to a full-sized basketball court. Plans are also in place to incorporate pickleball and potentially swings, creating a more family-friendly space.

Seeding Delayed Until After Court Installation

Seeding the area around the Circle will be put on hold until the basketball court is installed. This will allow for better planning and execution of landscaping, ensuring the space remains both functional and visually appealing.

Giving Kids Something to Do

The new basketball court will provide kids with a safe, fun space to play, stay active, and socialize. This will be especially valuable in encouraging physical activity and reducing screen time. Future additions like swing sets will further enhance the space, making it an even more attractive destination for families.

Community Input Shapes the Project

Before moving forward with the basketball court project, the board posted a survey on the Deer Valley HOA Facebook page to gather feedback from residents. A total of 163 community members participated, with 84% in favor of the project and 15% opposed. Among the responses, safety emerged as a top concern. In response, the design includes a 10-foot fence to keep basketballs within the court and away from the street, directly addressing these concerns and ensuring a safer environment for everyone.

Turning VBT Circle Into a Recreational Hub

This basketball court represents more than just a place to play — it’s a step toward transforming the VBT Circle into a vibrant, accessible recreational area. The project will foster a stronger sense of community by providing an outdoor space for residents to engage in physical activity, socialize, and enjoy the neighborhood.

Physical activities like basketball and pickleball will promote well-being, reduce stress, and help build connections among neighbors. With more facilities, this area will also help improve the overall appeal of the neighborhood, benefiting both current residents and newcomers.

Looking Ahead: Future Expansion Plans

Future plans for the Circle include expanding the court to full size and adding additional recreational features, such as swings and other amenities. These upgrades will ensure the space remains versatile and valuable for all ages.

Emmick’s leadership will help bring this vision to life, making the Circle a dynamic, welcoming space for all residents. With continued investment, this project is set to significantly enhance the Deer Valley neighborhood, providing a place for outdoor activities, community connection, and a healthier lifestyle.

As spring settles in and the weather warms up, there’s no better time to embrace the outdoors and get moving. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just someone who enjoys a leisurely stroll, these activities are great ways to stay active, boost your mood, and improve your overall health. With plenty of sidewalks winding through our beautiful neighborhood, you have the perfect opportunity to enjoy nature, get your body moving, and take steps toward a healthier lifestyle. Here’s why you should consider becoming more active outdoors.

  1. Boost Your Physical Health
Regular physical activity offers incredible health benefits. Whether you’re strolling through the neighborhood or picking up the pace, these activities help improve cardiovascular health, strengthen muscles, and increase bone density. Walking is low-impact, making it accessible for almost everyone, while running can enhance endurance and burn more calories in less time. Engaging in either activity regularly can reduce the risk of chronic conditions such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and obesity, while also improving joint flexibility and boosting your immune system.
  2. Mental Clarity and Stress Relief
Movement outdoors is not only beneficial for your body but also for your mind. It increases the production of endorphins, which are the body’s natural mood elevators. Regular exercise can alleviate stress, anxiety, and symptoms of depression. Plus, simply being outside and connecting with nature provides a feeling of tranquility and mental clarity. It’s a great way to clear your mind after a long day or take a break from the hustle and bustle.
  3. Socializing and Connecting with Neighbors
Getting outside for a walk or a jog is also a wonderful way to meet and socialize with neighbors. Whether you’re taking a solo walk for some quiet reflection or joining a group of friends for a morning jog, these activities offer an easy way to connect with the community. Exercising with others can make the experience more enjoyable and motivating, and it’s a great way to strengthen bonds and form new friendships right here in our neighborhood.
  4. Easy and Convenient
One of the best things about walking or running is how accessible they are. You don’t need an expensive gym membership or fancy equipment—just a good pair of shoes and a positive attitude! Our neighborhood’s ample sidewalks make it easy and safe to get outside anytime you like. Whether you’re taking a quick loop around the block or heading out for a longer workout, it’s convenient and simple to fit these activities into your daily routine.
  5. Improves Sleep Quality
Did you know that regular physical activity can help you sleep better? Whether you’re walking or running, these activities help regulate your body’s natural sleep-wake cycle. They can promote deeper, more restful sleep, which in turn can improve your energy and productivity throughout the day. A good evening walk or jog could be the key to ensuring you wake up feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the day ahead.
  6. Increases Longevity
Studies show that regular exercise can add years to your life. By staying active, you reduce the risk of developing many age-related health conditions and keep your body strong and functional. Whether you’re in your 30s or 70s, incorporating daily walks or jogs into your routine can help you stay independent and enjoy a high quality of life for many years to come.
  7. A Sense of Accomplishment
Whether you’re walking for fitness or training for a race, reaching your goals—big or small—can give you a powerful sense of accomplishment. Whether you’re aiming to go farther or run faster, setting and achieving new fitness goals boosts your confidence and gives you a sense of pride. With our neighborhood’s many paths and routes, there’s always a new challenge to tackle.

How to Get Started
If you haven’t been active for a while, start slow. Begin with short walks and gradually increase the distance and intensity over time. If you’re new to running, try alternating between walking and running in intervals. Make it a social activity by inviting a friend or neighbor to join you. Or, join a walking group or set up a running challenge within the community to keep you motivated.

In Conclusion
Getting outdoors is a fantastic way to improve your physical health, mental well-being, and overall happiness. With so many benefits, it’s no wonder that so many of our neighbors are already out and about. We encourage even more of you to join in—take a walk around the block or try a jog through our beautiful neighborhood. Not only will you feel better, but you’ll be contributing to a healthier, happier community for all of us!

So, lace up your shoes, step outside, and let’s get moving!
